What many people (outside of Arcade collectors and their ilk) don't understand, is how much time and money can go into a restoration project. Sometimes, it's not so much of a restoration as a resurrection! We've done a few Robotron's around here, and here is a fairly typical restoration project... where the machine had been converted to something else entirely (for shame), and was actually brought back from the dead. This is our bread and butter here folks, this is why this website exists. We sell the new machines and parts to make money so that we can do what we really want: bring 'em back! Take a look at some of the before and after shots:

Before...
...and After

A freaking Altered Beast...
...no more!!

Whew, this thing needs some paint...
...but not on the sides, for god's sake!

Cracked marquee, cardboard bezel, nice...
...Phoenix Arcade to the rescue, thanks guys!

Carpet matches the drapes?
Ahh, much better... Arcadeshop's beautiful overlay!

What do these 2 pics have in common?
Nothing, just wanted to show off the new monitor

Ok, so we didn't take a whole lot of pictures while this was all going on... sorry. We did take some of the control panel being redone, which are below. Something as simple as a control panel can take the better part of a day to bring back to life. You have a tendency to lose track of time while engrossed in a project like this, until you realize you haven't eaten all day and the Goof-Off fumes are starting to make you dizzy...

Ok, so we started with this...
...and found this underneath, interesting...

ok, so let's get all that crap off...
...still very interesting...

Ok, so let's peel one layer off... lotsa holes!!
Holy crap, good! The metal plates are still there!!

Not too shabby, I've seen worse...
...a little skeezy looking under those plates!!

I managed to get MOST of the overlay off...
...had to heat it up to get the last bit though...

Goof Off! The key to adhesive removal...
...let the sucker soak for awhile

After scraping, steel-wooling, and sweating a LOT...
...after a minor bit of sanding, looking pretty good!

Time to do something about those holes...
...ah, much better!!

What we didn't show was the overlay going on, which can be pretty nerve-wracking, but it went on without a hitch. Even managed to scrape up a couple of NOS buttons for this one, and put together some pretty nice looking Wico leaf-switch joysticks. Cost on this cp was around 100 bucks, not counting labor. Yikes!
This machine has long been sold, but we will have more...
